What does Loop Resale do?

We integrate resale into your Shopify website to participate in every sale, primary and secondary

Case Study

Loop Resale

Project Overview

Loop Resale is an easy-to-integrate e-commerce plugin that enables retailers to manage secondary sales directly on their platform. This gives them the opportunity to earn a percentage of every resale of their products that occurs through the platform.

Problem Statement

Retailers often see their products resold outside of their platforms—on sites like Facebook Marketplace, Tixel, and others. This creates significant frustration, as their hard work is being monetized without them benefiting from these secondary sales.

Scalping is particularly despised in the music industry, where individuals purchase products intended for fans at a lower price and resell them to the highest bidder. These resellers can make profits comparable to the original sale, but without assuming any of the risk or effort involved in the initial sale.

Hypothesis

Retailers have a unique opportunity to become the ideal secondary market. Trusted by customers for primary sales, they already drive traffic to their websites through effective marketing and have a deep understanding of their customer base.

User testing the Retailer Portal

We tested the effectiveness of the Shopify plugin and Retailer Portal on 7 different retailers to test terminology, discover any gaps in the experience and capture the existential needs for the product moving forward.

Key Learnings

Retailers want to show off Loop’s brand

  • Interestingly, most of the retailers we spoke with preferred displaying Loop's logo on the Shopify widget rather than opting for white labeling. Showcasing Loop as a brand not only strengthens the selling proposition but also serves as a recognisable marker, reassuring shoppers that they can easily resell their products through the retailer's site.

A need for bulk actions

  • 70% of retailers we spoke with expressed interest in the option to bulk-approve seller resale requests, as it would save time and improve efficiency.

  • To prevent fraudulent activity, it was recommended that sellers receive a 'Verified' tag once a sale is successfully completed.

Education around resale

  • One challenge we face is educating customers about what Loop is and how easy it is to sell.

  • By placing a widget on the product page, just below the primary call to action, we can offer small, informative prompts that encourage customers to return if they ever wish to resell their items.
